2025 Special Sessions

We are very excited to announce the return of two Special Events!  Once again, we’ll be hosting Mini Tsugaru Shamisen Workshops and Sake Tasting panels.  While we’ve got more seats to offer this year, seating is still limited, so be prepared to buy early to get a seat.  We’ve got more details below for each of these events. Ticket sales for all sessions will open on May 5th. Just visit our Special Events page for links to ticket sales!

Shamisen Workshops

Mini Tsugaru Shamisen Workshop (Beginners) – $59 per person

Join YouTuber and Shamisen player Norm Nakamura and Shamisen shop Rakuya for a hands-on introduction to the world of Shamisen! In this rare and interactive workshop led by passionate Shamisen experts, you will:

  • Build and take home your very own Mini Shamisen (no prior experience needed!)
  • Learn the basics of Shamisen playing, including how to hold it, use Bachi, and even perform a short song!
  • Try out professional-grade instruments from Shamisen shop Rakuya’s exclusive collection, typically only available in Japan

With controlled group sizes (max 40 people per session), this is an intimate and unforgettable chance to experience Shamisen up close. Only 35 tickets will be available in advance, and the rest will be sold at the door—so if you’re interested, don’t wait too long!

There will be 3 sessions over the course of the weekend.

Mini Tsugaru Shamisen Workshop (Advanced) – $49 per person

Already know your way around a Shamisen—or joined last year’s workshop and want to level up? This advanced session is for you!

IMPORTANT: All participants must bring their own Shamisen or mini Shamisen. Instruments will not be provided or built during the workshop. But if you don’t have a Shamisen, we have good news!!

Shamisen shop Rakuya will be selling instruments onsite during Animazement, and if you show proof of your advanced workshop ticket purchase, you’ll receive a $49 discount on your Shamisen (so technically, if you purchase an instrument, the workshop comes free!). You can use this discount before the workshop (recommended, so you’re ready to play) or after, anytime during Animazement weekend.

One of the highlights of this session is that you’ll learn 3 super popular songs that everyone knows—and take home the music sheets so you can keep practicing and even perform them later:

Songs:
🎵 From My Neighbor TotoroSanpo”
🎵 From EvangelionA Cruel Angel’s Thesis”
🎵 From Demon Slayer “Gurenge”

This session is designed for small groups (max 15 people) to ensure individual attention and a fun, focused learning experience.

Only 5 tickets will be available at the door (credit card only – no cash), first come, first served. There will be only 1 advanced session during the weekend—so don’t miss your chance!

Sake Tasting Sessions

An Introduction to Japanese Sake – $50 per person

What is Sake? How is sake made? What are the main styles? What are the most important key words? How does it pair with food? How should it be stored? How does one taste it? Understanding sake and sake terms is somewhat overwhelming. Let’s dive in and learn to enjoy the complexity while simplifying and understanding this amazing drink. We will be tasting and discussing 6 different sakes!

“Let’s Drink!”

Join Chris Spinks as he shares his love and experience with sake!

You must be 21 years or older to participate and attend this event. Valid government ID will be required before entry into the room.

Limited seating available. Each sake tasting session has room for 36 people. We’ll sell 26 tickets in advance. TEN (10) tickets will be available for purchase (credit card only – cash not accepted) at the door, first come first served.

Refunds will be given up to 3 day before the event. No refunds will be given on site.

Note: There will be a small plate of food served with this event which may include dairy, nuts, fruits and other allergens. Please be aware prior to registering for this event. If you have any questions, please email info@animazement.org.
